What: L'Oréal USA and Discover magazine will host a morning Congressional Briefing on whether science policy is promoting or hindering the advancement of female scientists, gender issues and how the broader application of Title IX has affected women pursuing science education and careers. Experts will discuss new research that exposes the top barriers women scientists face.

Following the briefing, L'Oréal USA will host a luncheon ceremony to award the 2010 L'Oréal For Women in Science Fellowships to five leading female scientists, enabling them to continue their groundbreaking research.

L'Oréal USA's For Women in Science program, in partnership with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), has recognized and rewarded 30 young women postdoctoral researchers in the life and physical/material sciences over the past six years with more than $1 million in Fellowship grants. L'Oréal USA hopes to develop and advance the work of these researchers and provide visible female role models for generations of scientists to come.
