'Techweek 2010' commences at DTU

'Techweek 2010', the annual technical festival organized by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Students Chapter of Delhi Technological University (DTU), formerly Delhi College of Engineering, was inaugurated today by Mr. S.R. Roy, Executive Director (IT&C), National Hydraulic Power Corporation Ltd and Prof. P.B. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, DTU, in the presence of Mr. U.K. Wohra, Registrar, DTU, Prof. Asok Bhattacharya, Branch Counselor, IEEE-DTU and Mr. Rahul Batra, Student Chairman, IEEE-DTU, among others. Techweek 2010 will be held from August 27-30 this year.

The objective behind the Techweek is to acquaint the students with latest technological innovations happening across the world as well as practices followed in the industry. Emphasizing on the importance of industry-academia interaction, at the inauguration, Prof. Sharma said, "It has become pertinent to connect the world of learning with the world of profession. Industries today are different from those of yesterday and need to be aware of the advancements in their fields to keep themselves globally competitive. We at DTU have resolved to design and develop programmes of tomorrow and have already made a beginning by introducing academic courses in Information System, Engineering Physics, Digital Design & Signal Processing and Nanotechnology, to mention some." Prof. Sharma also highlighted on the need to integrate science and engineering to develop technologies of tomorrow.

In his address, Mr. Roy urged the budding engineers to create innovations that support sustainable development and inclusive growth. "While aiming for development and creating products and technologies that are useful and affordable for a large number of people, we should never ignore its impact on environment and on overall development of our country. Techweek-2010 will provide you an opportunity to think out of box and come up with solutions for the benefit of society," he added.

'Iota' - the technical journal of DTU-IEEE Student's Chapter was unveiled by the dignitaries. An animated video created by the students of DTU on advancements in the field of various technologies like computers, robots, phones etc. was moreover, screened on the occasion.

The four-day fest will have an interesting array of events including session on "Technologies used in Transmission' by Powergrid, 'Speedy Mathematics' by Alchemist, workshops on 'Matlab & Digital Image Processing', '3-D Animation', 'Group Discussion' 'Embedded Systems & Robotics', and on 'Networking & Programming' by Cisco, beside host of others.
