Abstract:
Tehran University researchers discovered that application of polymeric nanofibers heals the body lacerations faster without causing any side effects.
"These nanocovers are applicable in all hospitals, and they can be a proper alternative for the present covers available in the market," Payam Zahedi, one of the researchers, told INIC.
"Considering the necessary parameters for a laceration cover, optimization of the covers by using nanotechnology-based systems can result in a much better performance," he said, adding, "Polymeric nanofibers have wide applications especially in critical cases due to their very high ratio of surface to volume and their ability to determine diffusivity and to intelligently adjust the medicine release process."
By searching other researches and carrying out precise studies, Zahedi discovered the appropriate nanopolymer for bandages and suitable additives such as antibiotics in order for a faster treatment of lacerations, and he optimized the device and operation parameters in order to produce the best product.
In order to produce the complete and desirable laboratory product, he then ran experimental tests to obtain the optimized formulation for the production of the final product.
Zahedi also tried to consider both viewpoints of process polymer engineering and biological aspects of the laceration simultaneously.
Considering the society's demand for this product and the low capital required for investing in the commercialization of such covers, it is predicted that the product will be mass-produced in the near future.
