NanoKTN Secures Partnership between UK Nanotechnology SMEs

UK | Posted on June 28th, 2010

The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (NanoKTN), one of the UK's primary knowledge-based networks for Micro and Nanotechnologies, is pleased to announce details of a successful partnership between two UK nanotechnology SMEs, introduced by the NanoKTN at one of its events late last year. The partnership between Kelvin Nanotechnology Ltd and Applied Nanodetectors Ltd will focus on the design and production of next generation, point of care diagnostics for healthcare.

The NanoKTN's primary aim is to encourage collaboration and knowledge transfer between key players in industry, as well as start-ups and SMEs. One of the key methods to ensure networking between key market players is to facilitate interactions through networking and event organisation. By doing this, the NanoKTN supports the UK supply chain and creates economic wealth for UK industry.

The partnership will focus on the development of breath analysis technology that uses sensor arrays. The companies will work together to design these applications that are able to detect asthma and diabetes, as well as a number of infectious diseases by breath analysis. In many cases, point of care solutions offer patients better standards of living and a more successful course of treatment, and providing a diagnosis whilst the patient is with the doctor can ensure the right treatment is received early, avoiding complications caused by delays.

"As nanotechnology is still an emerging market, its supply chain is not as mature and complete as it perhaps could be. The NanoKTN plays an invaluable role in connecting businesses and is critical to the development of a more complete supply chain. Presenting and exhibiting at the NanoKTN's events has raised our company credibility and raised our profile both nationally and internationally to our target audience. I would recommend NanoKTN membership and events to anyone who wants to gain valuable networking opportunities for their business" says Victor Higgs, Director at Applied Nanodetectors.

Brendan Casey, Director at Kelvin Nanotechnology continues, "The role of the NanoKTN is without a doubt, extremely valuable to UK nanotechnology businesses. The NanoKTN events provide both an overview of emerging technology and the opportunity to connect with people that you would otherwise not have access to. Without the continued help and support of the NanoKTN, our partnership with Applied Nanodetectors would not have come about."

Further information on the activities of the NanoKTN can be found on the website at www.nanoktn.com.

Established by the Technology Strategy Board, the NanoKTN is managed by Centre for Process Innovation Ltd, a leading technology development and consulting company.
