Home > Press > NanoProfessor Joins CEF to Promote Funding of Educationý
Abstract:
NanoProfessor™, a division of NanoInk, Inc.®, focused on delivering hands-on nanotechnology education to undergraduate students, is pleased to announce that it has joined the Committee for Education Funding (CEF) to help promote the financial support of federal education programs. NanoProfessor became part of the largest coalition of education associations to achieve adequate federal support for our nation's education system.
CEF is America's largest education coalition, reflecting the broad spectrum of the education community. Founded in 1969, CEF is non-partisan and non-profit with 80 member organizations. Through strong advocacy, grassroots efforts, and effective communications, the members of CEF have won bipartisan support for over $120 billion in increased federal education investment over the last five years.
"CEF welcomes the support of the NanoProfessor Nanoscience Education Program," said Joel Packer, executive director of CEF. "The NanoProfessor Program demonstrates its commitment to train the next generation of nanotechnologists by providing students with hands-on learning of nanotechnology that will translate into high-tech careers in a number of growing industries."
"NanoProfessor is proud to become part of a coalition of experts with a long history of providing a strong voice in support of federal education funding," said Dean Hart, executive vice president of NanoInk. "Together with CEF, NanoProfessor aims to raise awareness of the necessity for increasing federal education investment at all levels, especially in the rapidly growing area of nanoscience. Doing so not only prepares students for high-tech jobs in the field of nanotechnology, but also helps drive our nation's competitiveness in the exciting nanotechnology industry."
According to the American-based National Science Foundation, nanotechnology will become a $1 trillion global market by 2015 and will require a skilled workforce of more than two million nanotechnology workers. Currently there are only 20,000 nanotechnologists working in the field, which are pioneering innovations and breakthroughs in many industries including biotechnology, electronics, energy and many others.
The NanoProfessor Nanoscience Education Program aims to expand hands-on nanotechnology education from the cleanrooms of research-based universities to undergraduate classrooms, and is especially well-suited to nanotechnology educational initiatives at the community college, technical institute, and undergraduate university level. The program alternates between classroom lectures and hands-on lab work and includes a 275-page textbook authored by leading nanotechnology experts, covering the topics of Nanotechnology Basics, NanoPhysics, NanoChemistry, NanoBiology and Environmental, Health, and Safety perspectives on nanotechnology.
During the hands-on lab experiments, students learn the fundamentals for building custom-engineered, nanoscale structures while working with state-of-the-art equipment including NanoInk's NLP 2000 Desktop NanoFabrication System, a student-friendly atomic force microscope (AFM), an advanced fluorescence microscope, and various chemical and biological materials used today within current and emerging nanotechnology applications.

About the Committee for Education Funding
The Committee for Education Funding (CEF) is a coalition that was founded in 1969 with the goal of achieving adequate federal financial support for our nation's educational system. The coalition is voluntary, non-profit and non-partisan. CEF members include educational associations, institutions, agencies, and organizations whose interests range from preschool to postgraduate education in both public and private systems. The purpose of CEF is to provide members of the general public and government officials with information enabling them to better assess the need for funding of federal education programs. CEF takes positions on federal education funding issues that represent a consensus of its membership and then communicates those positions to federal government officials and Members of Congress.
