Taiwan can create own industrial crystals
Abstract:
Taiwan has developed the technology to create single crystals, a key element in medical, high-tech and other industries, marking a big step forward in reducing local companies' reliance on foreign suppliers, a local researcher said Monday.
"At present, Taiwan buys its crystals solely from other countries," said Mitch Chou, an associate professor with the Department of Materials.
Chou established the Center for Crystal Research in 2008, with the support of the Cabinet-level National Science Council (NSC) and the university's Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.
