Breckenridge students learn nanoscience, microelectronics

Abstract:
Within one hour, sixth grade students at Breckenridge Elementary-Middle School became embedded systems programmers.

In Patrice Wilson's class, students listened Wednesday as Rick Hendrickson, an associate professor of microelectronics at North Dakota State College of Science, explained the basics of electricity. As his first talking point, he discussed the function of a valence electron - located in the outer shell of an atom - and how to get it moving. Holding up a light-emitting diode circuit, he said the class could cause the bulb at the end to light up.
