Roy sees bright future for hospital
Abstract:
Days after finally moving patients and staff into the one-site hospital, Roy, the CEO of the Sudbury Regional Hospital, is looking to the future -- one that will include more building, specifically a medical learner's centre, an ambulatory care centre, a pediatric centre of excellence and a research centre.
"The future of medicine is in out-patient care," he said.
For instance, 20 years ago, people who got their gall bladder out stayed in hospital for 7-10 days. Now, the operation is less invasive, only requiring four little holes and is performed as a day surgery, with the patient leaving that night.
Fewer beds will be needed as new ways of performing medicine, including the use of nanotechnology, are applied.
