Consumer advocates have pointed to the undisclosed presence of nanoparticles in cosmetics to accuse the industry of exploiting Australian women, and to raise alarmist possibilities about their consequences. Those fears are quite possibly exaggerated - the technology is relatively new, scientists lack hard data, and hazard guesses at the long-term consequences. Nonetheless, consumers ought to be able to choose for themselves whether to take the (probably small) risk. That is why the presence of nanoparticles should be indicated on product labels.
