Abstract:
The Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST) is proud to announce that Tim Sands, the Mary Jo and Robert L. Kirk Director of the Birck Nanotechnology Center at Purdue University, will be the keynote speaker for ESTECH 2010, the society's Annual Technical Meeting and Exposition. Slated for May 3-6, 2010 at the Atlantis Hotel and Conference Center, Reno, Nevada, ESTECH is the premier conference where industry professionals in the fields of design, test, and evaluation/product reliability; contamination control; aerospace; and nanotechnology learn from experts who write the standards that are used today.

Tim Sands received his PhD in materials science at the University of California, Berkeley in 1984. Following nine years at Bell Communications Research, Inc. (Bellcore) in Red Bank, New Jersey, Sands joined the faculty at the University of California, Berkeley in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. In 2002, he became the Basil S. Turner Professor of Engineering at Purdue, with a joint appointment in the Schools of Materials Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering. Sands has published over 240 papers and has been granted 15 patents in the areas of metal/semiconductor contacts, heteroepitaxy, thermoelectric materials, ferroelectric and piezoelectric materials and devices, semiconductor nanostructures, laser processing and heterogeneous integration. In 2009, he was named a Fellow of the Materials Research Society.
