Abstract:
Veeco Instruments Inc. (Nasdaq: VECO) announced today that its TurboDisc® Arsenic Phosphide (As/P) metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) System has been qualified for production at AZUR SPACE Solar Power GmbH of Heilbronn, Germany. The system is the first of several Veeco MOCVD systems to be installed at Azur, and will be used to make concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) solar cells for terrestrial applications.

Veeco Turbodisc MOCVD System Qualified For Production At Azur For CPV Solar Cell Manufacturing

Plainview, NY | Posted on October 7th, 2009

Klaus-Dieter Rasch, Ph.D., Azur's CEO, commented, "We selected Veeco's MOCVD systems for their ability to provide reliable large volume production of high efficiency triple junction solar cells with the lowest cost of ownership."

Bill Miller, Ph.D., Senior Vice President, General Manager of Veeco's MOCVD Operations commented, "We are pleased that our TurboDisc system has been qualified for production at Azur for their increased capacity needs. Veeco's TurboDisc As/P MOCVD tools have become the CPV industry's platform of choice by offering a level of process control and reliability unmatched by competing MOCVD technologies, and are being adopted by the industry for highest yields and lowest cost of ownership for high volume production of multi-junction III-V concentrator solar cells."

Veeco's As/P MOCVD Systems feature proprietary in-situ metrology, RealTemp® 200, enabling superior material quality and process efficiency from direct real-time wafer temperature control, fast gas switching for strict control of interface abruptness, and vacuum loadlock automation for highest productivity.
