Home > Press > Mishap lands new nano minor in music
Abstract:
This fall marks the first time UTD offers a nanoscience minor to students. The new minor was prompted by student interest after alumni Bradley Wallace and Austin Swafford petitioned the material science and engineering department.
They worked with the engineering department to extend graduate nanoscience course offerings to undergraduate students, said Yves Chabal, materials science and engineering professor.
"So far, we only have three students who have taken the first and second course required for the minor, but part of the problem is that the second course was listed as elective in music," Chabal said.
The minor involves three required classes specific to nanotechnology: an introductory course, instrumentation and research, according to online curriculum. The other six hours can come from courses in other scientific disciplines or other nanoscience courses.
