Pecha Kucha #2 @ The Lab

Abstract:
The spirit of the thing was captured most eloquently by Jim Kakalios, a U of M scientist who does research in nanotechnology. In less time than it takes to answer an email, Kakalios went from discussing his research into energy alternatives such as solar roof shingles, to the problem of figuring out how to create photovoltaic cells that don't degrade in sunlight, to the study of sound waves as a possible solution, to colleagues in the neurosciences who decided to test his sound research on brain waves in lab rats, to the thrilling and unexpected conclusion—that all of this may one day have important implications for treating Parkinson's Disease. Point being: when research and information are shared freely in a spirit of cooperation and trust, amazing things can happen.
