Abstract:
AssuredNano(R), the premier Safety Health and Environment (SHE) Accreditation Scheme for organizations involved with nanotechnology was officially launched at NanoMaterials09.
AssuredNano(R)'s participation in the Pre-conference SHE workshop at Nanomaterials09 was extremely well received. The workshop provided a timely and pragmatic overview of current thinking on nanomaterial risk assessment and management. It was presented to a highly participative audience and resulted in a lively and informed panel session. A wide range of questions were fielded from the audience who were anxious for further understanding of this business-critical issue. Feedback on the workshop was very positive and AssuredNano(R)'s industry focused and pragmatic approach were warmly welcomed. AssuredNano(R)'s delivered the workshop together with the Institute
of Occupational Medicine and Dr Gary Hutchison of Edinburgh Napier University.
In the subsequent conference exhibition substantial interest in the AssuredNano(R) Accreditation Scheme was maintained.
Commented Martin Pick, Sales Director of AssuredNano: "Delegates have been remarkably receptive to the AssuredNano concept. Most people I have spoken to are delighted that a guidance framework is now available to enable provision of demonstrable responsible care. Further, they are relieved that a scheme exists, which will identify and update good practice whilst providing operational conformance through the use of acceptable procedures and audit techniques."
Reinforcing this message Harry Swan of Carbon Nanotube Manufacturers Thomas Swan & Co., stated that "AssuredNano(R) fills a real market need by providing manufacturers, such as Thomas Swan and Co. with a comprehensive assurance scheme which continually refreshes good practice and provides a mechanism which will ensure compliance."
Whilst Robert Muir of nana-particle detection instrument manufacturers Naneum Ltd, in noting the commercial advantages of AssuredNano(R)registration, commented "AssuredNano(R) not only ensures that we are aware of current good practice and are conforming to its requirements but provides the mechanism which allows us to demonstrate, to all, that we are conforming and are operating responsibly".
