Rusnano Pledges to Fund Youth Projects
Abstract:
The Federal Agency for Youth Affairs said Monday that the Russian Nanotechnology Corporation would co-finance four projects proposed by participants at the Seliger youth forum, although Rusnano later warned the young innovators that it was still too early to celebrate.
The agency said Rusnano chief Anatoly Chubais had told participants in a video conference that the state corporation would help finance four of their proposals.
Rusnano's press office, however, warned later that it was too early to say whether it would definitely finance the projects. The government created Rusnano in 2007 to attract private investment to nanotechnology.
"The applications they have filed are not official yet," Rusnano said in a statement.
"We have decided to pay for several expert tests so that the young scientists can properly prepare all the necessary documents," the company said.
"Only those applications that pass the test will get to our investment managers."
Chubais was quoted in the youth agency statement as saying, "Russia needs its own Bill Gates, who could earn for himself and promote the country."
