Firm’s nanotechnology to help companies mark pills as the real thing
Abstract:
NanoGuardian, whose lab and offices are in the suburb's Illinois Science and Technology Park, has developed a nanoencryption technology that imprints information directly on pills, vial caps and tablets.
The technology differs from holograms, cover-shifting inks and taggents, which use chemical markers to tag compounds, because it adds no ingredient to the medication.
The company's nanocodes can include unlimited data, such as a drug's strength, expiration date, distributor, manufacturing site and supply chain route.
The company perfected the NanoGuardian technology on a blockbuster drug developed by a pharmaceutical company that asked not to be identified. The technology is expected to reach the commercial market in a year to 18 months.
