Abstract:
Reduce weight and improve fuel efficiency with environmentally friendly Thixomolded®, magnesium components. Thixomolding®, the injection molding of magnesium alloys, is a one step process producing net or near net shape parts to tight tolerances with limited secondary operations. Parts are thinner (0.5mm to 20-25mm), lighter, yet stronger, than those produced from engineered plastics with intricate as molded features. Excellent dimensional stability. Minimum shrinkage. (0.5 percent). EMI/RF shielding is built in eliminating secondaries. Thixomolding® requires no foundry. No dross or sludge is produced and no SF6 or other ozone depleting gases are produced.

About Thixomat
Thixomat's Thixomolding® process is moving metal molding technology into the 21st century by offering parts manufacturers and end-users a viable alternative to plastics injection molding and die casting.

Thixomolding® is the injection molding of a thixotropic semi-solid alloy. It is based on the principle that magnesium, aluminum, zinc, and other alloys become semi-solid as heating approaches the melting point. This thixotropic semi-solid behavior allows these materials to be injection molded.
