Abstract:
Starting January 2009, Fluidinova embraces a new challenging project where the NETmix® technology, a proprietary innovative reaction concept, will be put to test within an European Consortium sponsored by the European Commission FP7 program, where ten partners from Academia, Technology Providers and Product Manufacturing Companies in five countries will be engaged. The project called PILLS - Process Intensification Methodologies in Liquid-Liquid Structured Equipment with a budget of 5.5 M€ will have a duration of 3 years and will have as main goal to develop new methodologies and the next generation of industrial processing equipment for liquid-liquid systems.

"In 2008 we have shown the unique capability of the NETmix® reactor to produce high-quality nanoparticles hydroxyapatite, commercialized by Fluidinova with the brand name of nanoXIM. In this new project we will apply this promising technology to liquid-liquid systems where mass transfer issues are relevant. The use of mesoscale reactors such as NETmix® will try to solve the technological gap of conventional technologies and provide significant improvement of reactions yield, leading to a more efficient and clean technology, improving the sustainability of chemical processes." said Paulo Quadros, nanoXIM and NETmix Group Leader at Fluidinova.

"The commitment of Fluidinova in this project is enormous and we are expecting that it will show the NETmix® technology potentialities, after in the past we have successfully produced other products such as nanoparticles of active pharmaceutical ingredients, phase-change materials encapsulation and hydroxyapatite nanoparticles." said José Carlos Lopes, CTO and Chairman of Fluidinova.

"The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Community's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement n° NMP2-SL-2008-214599".
