Abstract:
MNBC 2009: "Science, Networking and Commercialization for the Innovation Economy", co-hosted by Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI) and Washington Technology Center (WTC), will be held September 21-23 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Portland, OR. Last year's conference attracted 332 participants and 35 sponsors/exhibitors. It featured 4 half-day short courses, 41 papers in 10 technical sessions, 47 research posters and a closing panel on how technology startups gain traction.
The MNBC is widely regarded as the nation's best regional "small tech" event, and it serves to showcase the world-class research and industry assets of the Pacific Northwest. In a survey of 2008 participants, 94% indicated that they would recommend the MNBC to a colleague. Said one: "I was extremely impressed with this conference, especially the short courses. The material covered was very interesting, and presented in a way that engaged the audience. Every minute was worthwhile."
Keith Ritala of the University of Washington and Skip Rung of ONAMI will serve as 2009 program co-chairs, and have just issued a Call For Papers (see www.micronbc.org), with asbstracts due March 31, 2009. The 2009 program will be focused on commercialization, with the sequence of the three presentations in each technical session describing
*the state of the art for the session's technical topic
*an example of cutting-edge research paper in the topic area
*a commercial product employing the technology.
Tentative session topics include: advanced MEMS devices and applications, sensors and systems, nano-electronics and bio-electronics, printed and solution-processed devices and systems, nano-material design, synthesis and scale-up, nano-materials for clean-tech applications, nano-bio technologies, micro-energy and chemical systems, nano-scale imaging and chemical analysis, nano-medicine and cancer therapies, nano-optics and optoelectronic technologies.
