Tech boom to lift all small boats: futurist

Abstract:
Your faithful Denver Small Business Examiner is always pleased to bring you news of the next big economic bubble, which is one reason it was such fun this week to interview futurist Jack Uldrich for ColoradoBiz magazine and the Association for Corporate Growth-Denver. ACG-Denver will feature Uldrich at its Rocky Mountain Corporate Growth Conference March 11-March 12 at the Inverness Hotel and Conference Center.

We'll present some of his comments today and reserve the right to make this a two-part series, because Uldrich had a lot to say.

And because his message is—get THIS—fundamentally optimistic.

The tough-love part is Uldrich's insistence that small businesspeople not only must adapt to the current frosty economic climate, but also must grasp that it is time for them to consider the big tech-driven boom that surely will occur afterward, someday.

Uldrich has a wide-ranging curiosity. He is the author of books including "Investing in Nanotechnology: Think Small, Win Big," and this year's "Jump the Curve: 50 Essential Strategies to Help Your Company Stay Ahead of Emerging Technologies."

In between he wrote books on Lewis and Clark, George Marshall, and "Green Investing: A Guide to Making Money through Environment-Friendly Stocks."

The parallels between Lewis and Clark, exploring an unmapped continent, and today's technologists, vaulting into who knows what high-tech firmament, provided ample material for Uldrich's speaking engagements.

Uldrich's absorption with future technologies began with nanotechnology back when he was head of the office of strategic and long-range planning for then-Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura.
