Home > Press > A new industrial consortium led by BHR group
Abstract:
Products containing nanoparticles in their formulation are entering our daily lives at an increasing rate. Personal and healthcare products, such as sunscreens; reinforced rubber products such as car tyres; coatings & paints and disinfectants are some examples in current use. According to ‘The Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies'1 from 28 April 2008, nanotechnology based consumer products are hitting the market at a rate of 3 to 4 per week. This puts increased pressure on practising engineers and scientists to not only formulate new products but also ensure safe, reliable and reproducible design, operation and scale up of processes for such products at large scale.
HR Group launched a new industrial consortium, DOMINO, in October 2007. The project, fully sponsored by its industrial Members, investigates the incorporation and dispersion of nanoparticles into liquids.
Sat Panesar, Sales Director at BHR Group explains that "The aim of DOMINO is to develop process design procedures based on experimental and numerical findings of the programme. It is anticipated that these will replace the ‘trial-and-error' type of approach in process design". Sat says "The overall objective of the project is to enable Member companies to increase the profitability and reliability of their processes that involve dispersion of nano and micro particles in liquids".
BHR Group is actively encouraging interested companies to join DOMINO. Being part of the consortium, that is leading the way in Nano-technology, would mean that you benefit by gaining immediate access to all confidential results, findings, recommendations, experimental procedures, design procedures, computational models developed during the project; networking platform; confidential support for implementation of findings and training courses.
Founder members that enabled BHR Group to launch DOMINO comprises of companies in the chemical, pharmaceutical, personal care and equipment supply industries. Based on the current level of interest and enquiries, it is anticipated that the membership will grow rapidly over the coming years and we would encourage interested parties to contact us and find out more. Current members include: Akzo Nobel, Church & Dwight, GSK, Huntsman, Solvay and Ytron-Quadro.
