Kenya needs to focus on new medicine
Abstract:
Though Africa accounts for 11 per cent of the world's population, it accounts for 24 per cent of the global burden of disease.
Leaders in Kenya and other African nations must embrace the scientific and technical approaches that will help the local people to exploit the benefits of nanotechnology in the diagnosis, targeted delivery systems of medicine, and regenerative medicine.
Nanotechnology is as critical to malaria, as it is to HIV, and as it is to the common cold.
Nanomedicine will make it possible to produce a new generation of safe, effective and inexpensive medicine for the major diseases that are prevalent to the poor people in developing nations. The problem is that in African nations we still lag behind in technology, while we are the main contributors of global burden of diseases.
