Abstract:
Asemblon, Inc. specializes in the emerging field of self-assembled monolayers or SAMs. The company's two areas of business are the production of high purity alkanethiols for use in SAMs and a R&D project to store and transport hydrogen in the form of a proprietary liquid.
Director of Marketing & Sales: B. Norton
Location: Washington, USA
Industry: Alternative energy, hydrogen storage
Venture is: C-Round
ASEMBLON is presenting at next month's TechConnect Ventures Summit, which is co-located with NSTI Nanotech. Below is their Executive Summary, courtesy of B. Norton, ASEMBLON, Inc.
Transportation fuels of the future must be available, affordable and have minimal impact on the environment; therefore, hydrogen is the only future candidate. While the production cost of hydrogen is low, it is expensive to store and transport hydrogen in cryogenic liquid or highly compressed gas. Transporting hydrogen in these forms requires expensive new infrastructure: tanks, pumps and delivery vehicles. Low-cost pipeline delivery is not possible.
Asemblon has developed a recyclable, organic molecule that presents an elegant solution to these problems. It is liquid at standard temperatures and pressures, meaning it can be transported using current infrastructure: tankers, rail cars, pipelines and delivery trucks. Asemblon can deliver a kilogram of hydrogen (1 gallon of gasoline equivalent) to a fueling station at a price lower than today's gasoline pump prices. The current carrier molecule can meet DOE 2010 guidelines for volumetric and gravimetric efficiency and refueling time. Future candidate molecules that can meet the 2015 DOE guidelines have been identified. The molecular technology is available today for stationary applications, such as hydrogen liquid storage batteries for wind farms, making wind power dispatchable.
Asemblon is a technology company seeking partners and licensees to develop and deploy its hydrogen storage solution.
