Home > Press > New Contamination Control Tutorials at ESTECH 2008
Abstract:
The Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST) will hold its annual technical meeting and exposition, ESTECH 2008, May 4-7, 2008, at the Hilton Chicago/Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale (Northwest Suburban Chicago), Illinois. Several new tutorials, along with the popular certificate program on ISO Standards, will be offered for contamination control professionals.
Don't miss the upcoming ISO 14644 tutorials. Discover strategies for applying the ISO Technical Committee 209, Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments 14644 cleanroom Standards to meet today's requirements and tomorrow's goals. Knowledge of the ISO 14644-1 and 14644-2 Standards has become an operational and contractual necessity in today's cleanroom environments. The tutorial certificate program will be comprised of three tutorials: Understanding the ISO Series; Testing to Determine the Classification of Air Cleanliness; and Testing Cleanroom Performance Using ISO 14644-3. These tutorials can be taken as part of the certificate program or as stand-alone courses. This tutorial certificate program includes copies of ISO 14644-1, ISO 14644-2, and ISO 14644-3.
In addition to the certificate program, several new stand-alone tutorials will be available: Advanced Topics in Contamination Control; Swabbing Protocols for Cleaning Validation; Pharmaceutical Perspectives on Detergents and Cleaning Validation: Regulation and Current Practices; and Using NFPA 70E: Electrical Safety in the Workplace in the Cleanroom Environment. In Advanced Topics in Contamination Control, illustrative laboratory test results will be presented to validate two recently developed technologies for cleaning—dual-frequency and sweep megasonics. A hands-on demonstration of swabbing will be presented during the tutorial titled Swabbing Protocols for Cleaning Validation. Topics to be covered include proper methodology of sampling, review of cleaning validation challenges, and current industry practices. Pharmaceutical Perspectives on Detergents and Cleaning Validation will address surfaces, methods of cleaning, and common cleaning agent types and their uses, as well as methods to verify the effectiveness of cleaning and removal of the detergent at the conclusion of cleaning. Lastly, the tutorial on NFPA 70E will discuss NFPA 70E and the particular challenges of the cleanroom environment.
A hot topic in the contamination control industry over the past few years has been nanotechnology. IEST will be offering attendees a tutorial on Nanotechnology Facility Design. This tutorial will provide information regarding the challenging issues and decision points in the design of nanotechnology research and manufacturing facilities and the impact of those decisions on the construction and operation of the facility. Beginning with an analysis of facility needs, the course covers the design process; principles in laboratory, cleanroom, and biocleanroom design; flexibility in design; and gaseous and liquid delivery systems. It concludes with a discussion of overall building design to support the needs of nanotechnology. The session is a cross-disciplinary look at both "greenfield" and retrofit research and manufacturing facilities and is of interest to designers, contractors, facility-operations personnel, and users of the facility.
The tutorial on Cleanroom Housekeeping is back by popular demand. Learn how to implement housekeeping procedures essential to a cleanroom contamination control program, as outlined in the Recommended Practice (RP) IEST-RP-CC018: Cleanroom Housekeeping: Operating and Monitoring Procedures. This course provides guidance for maintaining a cleanroom at the level for which it was designed, including test procedures to establish frequency, monitor effectiveness, and determine appropriate levels of surface cleanliness. A copy of the newly revised IEST-RP-CC018.4 will be available to all participants.
Registration and the ESTECH 2008 online advance program are available on the ESTECH web page at www.iest.org. For more information, contact IEST at or call (847) 981-0100.
