Nanoscience researcher to speak on current energy issues

Abstract:
Dresselhaus is the first speaker in the College of Science's Centennial Distinguished Lecture Series, held in celebration of the College of Science's 100th year. She will be speaking on current energy issues at 4:30 today in the Physics Building, Room 114.

Dresselhaus excels in areas both inside and outside the realm of science, for which she has won numerous awards. Since 1961, she has been working with carbon science, the study of carbon materials. More recently, she began research related to nanoscience, which focuses on material compositions at an atomic level.

Part of the reason Dresselhaus enjoys working with science is "the feeling of discovering something new." She likes teaching because she enjoys the topic and the people. Dresselhaus is able to help others learn about things that fascinate her.

Though she has achieved a great deal in her scientific work, Dresselhaus said one of her most valuable achievements is affecting the lives of other people. As a person who is familiar with the pressures women face in the science arena, she has worked with and encouraged young women in the field.
