Hi-tech minerals unlocking sought
Abstract:
South African mineral technology science council Mintek is seeking to use nanotechnology to unlock new properties of the country's minerals. (A nanometre is 10-9 m, or one billionth of a metre.) The science council hosts the Department of Science and Technology/Mintek Nanotechnology Innovation Centre (DST/Mintek NIC), which is one of the country's first two nanotechnology innovation centres (the other is hosted by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (Engineering News December 7, 2007). Both Centres have been established in line with the National Nanotechnology Strategy.
