.5 Micron Fiber Now Possible with New Nano Technology from Hills Inc. and Celanex® Next Generation PBT from Ticona Engineering Polymers

Florence, Ky., October 15, 2007 - Nano fibers media is now possible using Hills Inc's special meltblowing die and Celanex® Next Generation JKX-1158 polymer. Celanex JKX-1158 provided the high strength and low fly necessarry to achieve 300-400nm fibers.

Hills special die design produces high back pressure at low through put and economical out-puts with high hole density. Hills was not able to go below 1 micron with standard PBT.

"We know we're early in the game for producing nano fibers from polyester," says Arnold Wilkie, president of Hills Inc. "Celanex JKX 1158 is the only polyester material that has successfully produced nano fibers in our testing."

The etched or otherwise grooved plates form spin holes. There are greater than 100 holes per inch (~4,000 holes/meter). See Image below. These strong and economical dies provide significant landing area between the holes to deliver finer filtration in an incredibly thin fiber media.

"Nano fiber materials are ideal for gas and liquid filtration," says Arvind Karandikar, marketing specialist with Ticona Engineering Polymers. "These new fibers will push the boundaries of liquid filtration as we know it today, increasing filtration efficiency without increasing pressure drop."
