Pondering a computer with a conscience
Abstract:
Tiny computers are already being implanted into the nervous systems of living things. Nanotechnology, the construction of objects at the molecular level, "has been used to build devices that can detect neuron firings and cause other neurons to fire," Sternberg said. "For example, when inserted into a living leech, the nanotechnology devices allow scientists to control the leech's movements with a computer."
In his new book, "Are You a Machine? The Brain, The Mind And What It Means to Be Human," Sternberg said some believe we should be able to design super-intelligent machines to think millions of times faster than we do.
