Investor Spotlight: Golden Pine Ventures
Abstract:
Golden Pine Ventures, founded in the summer of 2004, has not disclosed the size of its fund, but Meldrum says it has enough to do between six and eight investments in the early-stage biotechnology and biomedical companies it favors.
Meldrum says the firm's typical investment depends on the opportunity, but has invested $100,000 in a couple. "We're looking at opportunities where we want to get to proof of concept," he says.
As an example, he cites the firm's only non-Southeastern investment in Kylin, which employs a revolutionary RNA nanoparticle technology platform called "pRNA" to exploit the enormous potential of RNA interference (RNAi) for treatment of many common diseases.
