AFRL, UDRI researchers teaming in nanotechnology work
Abstract:
Researchers with the Air Force and the University of Dayton Research Institute are applying nanotechnology to find ways of improving the reliability of aircraft systems.
The combined research team has demonstrated the use of tiny carbon nanotubes to improve thermal conductivity in adhesively bonded joints, the Air Force said. Researchers said this could support the development of electric-powered aircraft, in which stationary generating devices like rechargeable batteries and heat exchangers would power the airplanes rather than less efficient, conventional generating equipment.
