UML tech. building planned
Abstract:
The 97,000-square-foot Emerging Technologies and Innovation Center will house both nanotechnology and bio-manufacturing research, along with other leading-edge work in a "green" facility.
Robert P. Connolly, spokesman for the UMass President's Office, said, "The advanced research center will foster collaboration in the business world as well as improve the academic experience of students."
The new Technologies and Innovation Center will not come cheap. Construction costs for the new building are estimated to be $80 million. The state is providing $35 million, UMass is borrowing $35 million and the final $10 million will be coming from private and federal funding. The expected date of the center is 2010.
