Government backs initiative to harness light for technology
Abstract:
To add to biotechnology and nanotechnology as the modern marvels of science, there is now also photonics.
The department of science and technology decided recently to invest in the development of a national strategy for photonics under the banner of the Photonics Initiative of South Africa (Pisa).
The chairman of the initiative's steering committee, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research's Thulani Dlamini, says this is based on a need to create a co-ordinated approach to research, development and innovation on photonics.
