NSF grants to fund Sage scholarships
Abstract:
The Sage Colleges will receive $732,000 in National Science Foundation grants to fund science, math and engineering scholarships to encourage more students to enter technical fields.
The majority of the grants, $588,815, will fund six scholarships at Russell Sage College and four at the Sage College of Albany, school officials announced Thursday.
That money is earmarked primarily for women and minorities enrolled in biology, chemistry, computer science, math and engineering.
The other $142,700 in National Science Foundation grants will help Sage Colleges purchase atomic force microscopes and other instruments used in nanotechnology.
"It's another step in the road to meeting the growing demand for homegrown scientists and engineers, specifically with respect to nanotechnology," said Thomas Keane, chairman of Sage's Department of Chemistry and Physics.
