Abstract:
Very soon, breakthroughs in genetic engineering, stem cell research, and nanotechnology, will enable people to live to the ages of 125, 150, and beyond, and will be doing so as physically young and vibrant people.
So contends sociologist and futurist Dr. Michael G. Zey in his book, "Ageless Nation: The Quest for Superlongevity and Physical Perfection" (New Horizon Press Books.) scheduled to hit the stores this week.
According to Dr. Zey, the Superlongevity Revolution, as he labels it, will severely test our traditional beliefs about marriage, careers, retirement, and the very way we structure our lives. More importantly, as we extend the human life span, the very notion of "old" and aging will be rigorously challenged.
Speaking from his offices in Morristown NJ, Dr. Zey said "Ageless Nation asks the questions about the future that no one else seems willing to explore." Such as? "I look at a future where medicine has made eternal youth possible. You will not know, at least from physical appearances, whether you are dating a 25 year old or a 60 year old." Zey also looks at how "near-immortality" will radically change our very concept of "human." And he predicts the political and social fallout resulting from the Superlongevity Revolution.
Michael Zey is in the middle of a full schedule of media events and personal appearances to describe his vision of the emerging "Superlongevity Era and its impact. This includes appearances at the World Future Society meeting in Toronto, the November '07 meeting of the International Institute of Research at Key Biscayne's Ritz-Carlton (along with Sir Bob Geldorf of Live8 fame and other notables), as well as interviews on WMET in DC, W in Philadelphia, and CBS's LA news outlet KNX-AM.
Ultimately, Michael Zey says, "Ageless Nation" and media events related to the book provide him an opportunity to convey his vision of a "hopeful and optimistic future to a public tired of the bad news routinely conveyed by the mass media."
