Agribusiness: Innovation and Foresight for Repositioning Caribbean Agriculture
Abstract:
The Caribbean region is challenged to find alternatives to fossil fuels; achieve food security and maintain competitiveness in national and global markets while coping with emerging threats such as climate change and technological advances such as nanotechnology. In the face of resource constraints, the policy response must be timely to address pressing problems and at the same time, visionary to anticipate and address future needs. The region's response must include science, technology and innovation policies and strategies, which are implemented in the most effective and efficient manner to safeguard agricultural and rural development. Consequently, developing and using innovation and foresight capabilities, should assist the Caribbean region in directing its science, technology and innovation agenda for making optimum use of its resources to respond to emerging threats and capitalize on opportunities to spur growth and development.
