Semefab buys building for additional MEMS fab
Abstract:
Semefab (Scotland) Ltd. has acquired the building adjacent to its Fab 1 & Fab 2 facilities in Glenrothes to enable it to create an 871 sq m cleanroom for MEMS front end processing.
Fab 3 is scheduled to be operational by Jan 2009 and will be in a new 3000 sq m facility that will also house services and additional office space.
Semefab's Fab 1 started operation in 1986 fabricating CMOS, ASIC and discrete process technologies and the company expanded in 2000 adding Fab 2 for the fabrication of micro electro mechanical systems (MEMS).
In 2006 Semefab, under the SemeMEMS banner, was awarded Scottish Enterprise and U.K. Department of Trade & Industry funds to create the UK's primary wafer fab node for Micro and Nanotechnology (MNT).
