Call it 'Nano U.'
Abstract:
Mark Ratner, one of Northwestern University's world-class nanoscientists, attributes much of Nano U's success to the leadership of its "visionary" president, Henry Bienen, and the NU board.
"Henry Bienen has done the academic world's version of a turnaround at Northwestern," Ratner said. "Northwestern isn't the same place now it was 10 years ago."
Bienen recalled that when he arrived at NU 13 years ago, he wrote to the department heads "for ideas to invest in." He said the chemistry department was well-organized and had big plans to invest in the nano side of chemistry.
