Going to Destructive Lengths to Score a Point
Abstract:
If SNU is not allowed to increase the number of faculty, it will not be able to start the Graduate School of Fusion Technology, which is scheduled to select students next year. The university must give up its plan to hire 100 foreign professors. The Graduate School of Fusion Technology, which is scheduled to open in 2009, intends to admit experienced workers as students to educate them in the fields of nanotechnology, biotechnology and intelligent robot construction. That field is what the government has designated as a "next-generation technology" needed by Korea to fuel its growth in the coming decades. The school needs 30 new teaching staff, and the government is threatening to destroy it just because SNU refuses to count a high school GPA for as much as the ministry wants.
