N.C. bill seeks to elect president by popular vote
Abstract:
A nanotechnology school planned for Guilford County is expected to get nearly $4 million to begin development, based on a budget recommended by N.C. House leaders this week.
The center would be a joint project between UNC-Greensboro and N.C. A&T located on the Millennium Campus.
Greensboro economic development officials say securing money for the $65 million project is their top legislative priority during the current session of the General Assembly.
"It says that other people are seeing the project as something that can impact the Triad and the state as much as we think it can," said Denise Turner, a lobbyist for The Greensboro Partnership.
Nanotechnology involves manipulating material on a minute scale for applications in everything from sunscreen to computers. Supporters say the nano-science school will quickly adapt academic research to real-world uses, attracting manufacturers and other businesses to the area.
