Clean tech, IT open source get a push
Abstract:
Jagdale said the French government introduced a competitive cluster development policy in July 2005, with a Euro 1.5 billion kitty, for the regional industries, research and development and academic institutions, chamber of commerce and the provincial governments to come up with area-specific business proposals.
The policy led to an overhaul of the academic as also industry and research orientation and resulted in the setting up of 67 competitive clusters in areas like pharmaceuticals, biotech, life sciences, water technology, nanoscience, agriculture, perfumes, energy and aeronautical engineering.
Jagdale said, the department of science and technology was aiming at replicating this model in the country following Union minister for science and technology Kapil Sibal's visit to France last year, when an elaborate presentation was made on the potential for competitive clusters in India.
