Under the microscope
Abstract:
Seven colleges in the nation -- including Chemeketa Community College -- are road-testing a high-tech microscope.
A $1.9 million federal grant placed a Phenom-Ed in each of the schools in October 2006 to help researchers work out kinks in the design, and to allow students access to cutting-edge technology, said Robert "Skip" Rung, the executive director of Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute.
The Phenom fuses a regular optical microscope with its cousin, the scanning electron microscope.
