Lice-spotting device almost in shearer's hands
Abstract:
A new hand-held device to detect the presence of sheep lice on a shearer's blade is only months from completion.
The device, developed by CSIRO, RMIT and Australian Wool Innovation, uses the science of nanotechnology to pick up lice proteins.
Dr Peter Binks from Nanotechnology Victoria says growers will know exactly when to drench their sheep, restricting the unnecessary use of chemicals and saving money.
