Abstract:
The Université de Montréal will hold an official ceremony to unveil a major acquisition, a shared-memory supercomputer. This supercomputer is the most powerful system of its kind in Canada, and will provide new avenues of scientific research for some 350 members of the Réseau québécois de calcul de haute performance (RQCHP), Québec's inter-university network for high-performance computing.

Attending the ceremony will be Robert Davidson, Director, Programs and
Operations, Canada Foundation for Innovation, Martin Pinard, President of SGI
Canada, Luc Vinet, Rector, Université de Montréal, Joseph Hubert, Dean of the
Faculty of Arts and Science, Université de Montréal, together with professors
David Sénéchal and Michel Côté, respectively RQCHP Director and Université de
Montréal Site Director for the inter-university computing network.

The RQCHP is a network of researchers in high-performance computing at
the Université de Montréal, Université de Sherbrooke, Concordia University,
Bishop's University and the Ecole Polytechnique. The network comprises a pool
of advanced computer facilities that provide its members with the computing
resources crucial to the progress of their work in various fields, including
(among others) astrophysics, medicine, nanotechnology and transportation.
