Will batteries ever get better?
Abstract:
This is one technology that sticks to basic physics whose rules don't change. Lithium ion battery technology is the best around and, with an estimated 1.8 billion Li-ion cells in circulation, a lot can go wrong with the sometimes volatile technology, and it has. There is nanotechnology battery design in the works -- many tiny batteries that individually turn on and off, safely and efficiently dispensing power as needed. But electronics device makers would have to redesign how portable devices use power.
