Nanotech Northern Europe 2007 once more brings together nanotechnology’s pioneers

Posted on September 29, 2006

Nanotech Northern Europe 2007 (NTNE 2007) takes place for the third time, in Helsinki, Finland.

The largest nanotechnology event in Northern Europe will bring nanotechnology’s leaders to the Helsinki Fair Centre from 27 – 29 March 2007. Keynote speakers will include Professor Shuji Nakamura, winner of the 2006 Millennium Technology Prize, and the 2005 Japan Prize winner Professor Erkki Ruoslahti. NTNE 2007 is held in parallel with ChemBio 07, providing combined overview of nanotechnology, chemistry and biotechnology.

The NTNE 2007 Congress will feature leading international experts, representatives of industry, investors and policy makers. The main themes of the congress will cover new solutions in nanoelectronics and nanophotonics, nanotechnology instruments and tools, nanomaterials and particles, and nanobiotechnology and diagnostics. The event aims to accelerate development from scientific research into industrial processes and consumer goods.

The 2006 Millennium Technology Prize winner, Professor Shuji Nakamura, is one of the most notable inventors of our time. He has developed a new, revolutionary source of light; nanostructured bright-blue, green and white LEDs, as well as a blue laser. Professor Nakamura works at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Since 1979, Professor Erkki Ruoslahti has worked at the Burnham Institute in California, where his primary focus area is cancer research. Findings from his studies have led to the development of new cardiac, osteoporosis and cancer pharmaceuticals. In addition to many other awards, Professor Ruoslahti received the respected Japan Prize in 2005.

At the exhibition running alongside the congress, leading device manufacturers will showcase measurement instruments and other tools for nanotechnology research. Nordic nanotechnology research centres will also be presenting their work and development plans.

ChemBio Finland 07 is the year's most significant event in the field of biotechnology and chemistry in the Baltic Sea region. Combining nanotechnology, chemistry and biotechnology in the same location leads to even more interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration. NTNE 2007 Congress is expected to attract over 500 participants from over 25 countries. Organized every other year, ChemBio Finland 05 attracted 8 800 professionals.

The NTNE 2007 congress is organised by Finnish nanotechnology consultancy and seed capital firm Spinverse Consulting. The event’s main partners include Nokia and Tekes; the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation.
