Abstract:
UK-based Cientifica has recently released its new report: Nanotechnologies in the Food Industry just prior to its second annual Nano4Food conference in Atlanta, GA.
UK-based Cientifica (www.cientifica.com) has recently released its new report: Nanotechnologies in the Food Industry that provides a thorough investigation into the scope, integration and applications of nanotechnology in the food industry over the next ten years.
The report’s release comes just prior to its second annual Nano4Food conference (www.nanofood.info) to be held this year in Atlanta, GA, October 12-13, 2006.
Both the newly released report and the upcoming Nano4Food conference provide real-world assessments of the commercial viability of nanotechnologies in their application to the food industry by examining the nano-applications that are currently on the market.
The report estimates that nanotechnologies in the food industry constitute a value of US$410 million in 2006 and will grow to be worth US$5.8 billion in 2012.
Currently, the value of nanotech in food is driven by the use of nanoclays in food packaging and the development of improved nutraceuticals. There is also some commercial activity of nano-related technologies being used in food processing such as filtration.
Both the current leaders in the commercial use of nanotechnologies in these food-related applications as well as those at the forefront of developing future applications will be making presentations at the Nano4Food Conference.
The Nano4Food Conference is being produced in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Netherlands (www.cgmiami.org), the Food Processing Division of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (foodtech.gatech.edu), the Institute of Food Technologists (www.ift.org), the US Department of Agriculture’s Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (www.csrees.usda.gov), and Wageningen Bionanotechnology Centre for food and health innovations BioNT (www.biont.wur.nl/nl).
