Transformational Approaches in HPC
Abstract:
HP Labs has some of the industry's leading researchers in the field of nanotechnology, and the company was selected as one of Scientific American's top 50 technology leaders for the second time in 2005. HP Labs created the first electronically switchable molecular junction in 1999, and unveiled the crossbar latch in 2005. The crossbar latch provides the signal restoration and inversion required for general computing without the need for transistors, a critical step in building more powerful computers using nanometer-sized devices that are relatively inexpensive and easy to build. This technology could result in computers that are thousands of times more powerful than those that exist today.
