Nano skeptic sees the light!

Abstract:
Randy Putnam: In response to my recent letter on the "mystical" world of nanotechnology, I received a phone call from Steve Janack, director of communications at the Albany Nanotech center, inviting me to visit their facility and meet with some key members of the staff.

What I came away with from the tour and our meeting is this: Nanotechnology here in Albany is driven by the need for continued miniaturization and circuit integrity in the semiconductor industry. Forget all the marketing "spin" on nano-this and nano-that. The focus in Albany is on what I'd consider hyper-high technology--the kind of stuff my 1- and 2-year-old grandchildren will be using in their everyday lives.
