President Participates in American Competitiveness Panel
Abstract:
The President: Do you realize that the Internet came to be as a result of federal government research into basic sciences? In other words, research yields practical applications that improve people's live -- is what I'm trying to say. And so I proposed to Congress that we double basic research programs in physical sciences over the next 10 years.
They tell me that by doing so, we'll be the leader in nanotechnology research. I'm just beginning to understand what that means. But the smart people tell you, if you're the leader in nanotechnology research you'll be the leader in quality jobs and quality of life.
