Abstract:
Sponsored by the American Industrial Hygiene Association’s Aerosol Technology Committee
Industrial hygienists and occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS) professionals from across the globe will meet at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, May 13-18, 2006, to learn more about what it will take to be a successful professional in the coming years. They will all be part of the 2006 American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Expo (AIHce). AIHce is co-sponsored by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH).
AIHce provides a forum to learn, to stretch your mind, and to rejuvenate your skills. Sessions are designed for OEHS professionals looking for knowledge and practical ideas to solve everyday problems. There is a day-long symposium that aims to cover the topics most essential to make informed decisions to properly protect the workers exposed to nanomaterials.
Nanotechnology is a new, fast-growing field that involves the manufacture of materials with a primary size in the nanometer range. These materials may be similar in some respects to the ultrafine particles currently found in some workplaces, yet they also may have special characteristics that make them more toxic. As this technology expands, there is an ever-increasing need for the rapid development of safety and health initiatives to protect workers in this area.
Speakers will discuss the nature of the nanotechnology industry and possible fugitive emission scenarios; the current understanding of the toxic properties of nanomaterials; measurement methods; government initiatives; and workplace protection.
Attendees of this symposium will:
Top-notch programs, like that of the Nanotechnology Symposium, are being offered against the backdrop of Chicago, one of the world's best cities for conference goers. Don't miss the best education program of 2006. For more information, including a schedule of planned professional development courses and education sessions, visit www.aiha.org/aihce.htm.
About the American Industrial Hygiene Association:
Founded in 1939, the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) is the premier association of industrial hygiene and occupational and environmental health and safety professionals. AIHA's 12,000 members play a crucial role on the front line of worker health and safety every day. Members represent a cross-section of industry, private business, labor, government, and academia.
